Henry Kapono and other prolific local musicians will perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Sept. 23 in a 50th anniversary salute to the music of Cecilio and Kapono.

The concert will feature several special guests, including Kalapana, Amy Hanaiali’i, Kimie Miner, Brother Noland and Kala’e Parish, with more to be announced, the MACC said in a news release Monday. Kapono will be accompanied by his all-star band, including Alx Kawakami, Johnny Valentine, Lopaka Colon and Gaylord Holomalia, along with fellow band members Matt Krahula and Wendell Ching.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with the concert starting at 6:30 p.m. at the MACC’s A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion.

Tickets go on sale online only at 10 a.m. Wednesday to MACC members and on Friday to the general public.

The concert will celebrate Kapono’s legacy, from the era-defining and iconic songs of C&K to his award-winning and Grammy-nominated solo career to his work keeping Hawaii’s music and culture thriving through the Henry Kapono Foundation.

Kapono rose to popularity as half of the duo C&K with Cecilio Rodriguez. They were the first Hawaii group to be signed by a major record label, Columbia Records, and helped forge the sound of the 1970s “Hawaiian music renaissance” with laidback contemporary island rock, according to the news release.

Kapono paved a solo career in the mid-1980s, earning a Grammy nomination and 21 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards along the way.

The Maui concert will feature C&K hits such as “We’re All Alone,” “Lifetime Party,” “Sailin,’ “ “Gotta Get Away,” “Sunshine Love,” “Highway in the Sun” and more.

Tickets are $15.50 for general admission on the lawn, with no seat; $45.50 for a reserved seat; and a $150.50 VIP “Hanging with Henry” package that includes a premium seat, VIP entry gate, exclusive access to the Yokouchi Pavilion bars and restrooms, a photo opportunity with Kapono and a keepsake VIP laminate. All ticket prices are plus applicable fees.

All ticket sales are online only at MauiArts.org. For ticketing inquiries, contact the MACC box office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday by phone at (808) 242-SHOW (7469) or email boxoffice@mauiarts.org.
